Former India captain, Mahendra Singh Dhoni announced his retirement from international cricket yesterday (August 15, 2020). The announcement of Dhoni, known as the greatest soldier of the millennium, left everyone shocked and emotional. Dhoni announced his retirement through an Instagram post which wrote, ‘Thanks a lot for your love and support throughout. From 1929 hrs consider me as Retired.’ The post also included images of half of his illustrious decade with the Indian cricket team.
Tagged as the country’s most prolific captain, a distinguished wicket-keeper, and the most destructive batsman, Dhoni’s retirement marks the ‘end of an era’. The captain played many roles and was always right. As Dhoni sent the message of his retirement, many celebrities shared heart-touching posts to say goodbye to the most-liked cricketer from his social media handle.

Shortly after MS Dhoni announced his retirement, his close friend and Chennai Super Kings teammate Suresh Raina also announced his exit from the international game. Known as a prolific cricketer, Dhoni’s retirement sparked backlash from both the team’s former players and opponents on social media platforms.
He has joined the elite list like Sachin Tendulkar, Rahul Dravid, Sourav Ganguly and Brian Lara. India picked up the World Cup in 2011 (50 overs) and the World Twenty20 under Dhoni’s captaincy in 2007.
