First Look Of Kajol, Shruti Hassan, Neha Dhupia Starrer Short Film Devi

It is always such a power move when women come together to make a film about their experiences and this short story called Devi is all that and more. This is a first of its kind for many people involved with this project. Directed by debutant director Priyanka Bannerjee, it is also the first short film by Kajol Devgn and Shruti Haasan.

The short film is based on the lives of nine women from different sections of society, all oppressed in their own way. They are in a situation where they have to share their stories of pain and trauma with each other, and the bond and brotherhood that forms for the story. It is also very interesting that apart from some of them, the entire cast and crew were female-led, including the DOP and the line producers.

Talking about the film, Kajol says:

I couldn’t have chosen a better subject than Devi for my first short film. It’s a powerful statement, written very well by Priyanka. It’s a poignant film, one that needs to be shared with the world, especially today. In today’s times when gender discrimination, abuse and violence is being spoken about vociferously, films like Devi are far more relevant and I am glad to have got the opportunity to participate.

Shruti also shared her experience of working in the film, saying, It’s amazing how it deals with the idea of sisterhood and when we talk about the need for women to stand up for each other, Devi Exposes it in a beautiful way.
It is also interesting to note that women of all ages in the film come together in an enclosed space and share their stories, sharing more similarities than they thought to only feel the pain and horror stories. Acclaimed actress Neena Kulkarni, who is also a part of the film, says she found the script so well written and liked how the interactions between the characters go.
Produced by Electric Apples Entertainment for Large Short Films, we are super thrilled for it.
